Q. Why do the previous and forward (history) arrows display as enabled in Web Eyes, when Internet Explorer shows disabled?
A. Initially, Web Eyes can not follow IE’s history buttons, but once you navigate forward into a Web page, Web Eyes’ history buttons display correctly.
Q. Why can’t I open multiple Windows from a single Internet Explorer window?
A. Web Eyes, a browser plug-in, has a one-to-one correspondence with Internet Explorer. Therefore, to open multiple windows of Web Eyes requires opening multiple IE windows, and then launching the “Read Like a Book” format from each IE window.
Q. When I type a URL into Web Eyes, or click on a link in Web Eyes, the Web Eyes window vanishes and reappears on top of Internet Explorer with the content. Is this normal?
A. Yes. It is normal since Web Eyes extracts content from IE. The Web Eyes window reappears after the content has been extracted from IE.
Q. When I click on either a PDF file link, or a MS Word file link, IE successfully shows the content but Web Eyes remains blank. What's wrong?
A. Web Eyes is not implemented to work with PDF or MS Word files, therefore you will not get any text showing at the link. To read MS Word files they must be opened in Word and saved as HTML or Web pages. Then open the files in IE.
Q. I see size differences when I try to make the type larger or smaller. Why is that?
A. Twelve-point type is the average size type for most people’s comfort. In order to keep the chosen Web pages in proportion, we scale the type relative to twelve-point type. In smaller type, these percentages may be skewed because it is harder to render the smaller type sizes. In the “Preferences” under the “formatting menu”, you will see a line with a check box: “Use Document Font Size”. By checking the box, you specify that all type is to be the same size in your window.
Q. When I click on” Check for Updates” from the Help menu, I get a message stating that an updated version of Web Eyes is available. After clicking OK to go the URL for downloading the upgrade, then what do I do?
A. From the IE browser, click on the link to download the latest version of Web Eyes. You will download a file entitled “Web Eyes setup.exe”. WRITE DOWN or PRINT the password and new serial number. Remember where you saved the downloaded file. You must remove the previous version before installing the new version. See the next question below for detailed instructions to uninstall Web Eys. Close all your browser windows, including the Web Eyes window. Double click on the installer that you just downloaded. Proceed with the installation using the password and serial number on the download page.
Q. When upgrading Web Eyes to the newer version, I get an error message stating that another version of this product is already installed and should be removed. What should I do?
A. You must remove the previous version before installing the new version. Go to the “Start” button located on the bottom left-hand of your screen, go to “Settings”. From the “Settings” window, choose “Control Panel”, and then click on the “Add/Remove Programs” folder. A small window will list each program on your computer. Select “Web Eyes”. The uninstaller brings you to a window with the choice of modify, repair or remove the program. You choose “Remove”. This completely removes Web Eyes from your computer. (Do not delete Web Eyes manually from your computer.) Now, you are ready to install the newest version of Web Eyes.
Q. I have been using Netscape Communicator as my email application and Netscape Navigator as the browser. Since I am now using Internet Explorer to enable the enhanced Web Eyes reading environment, will I still be able to keep my old email application with Netscape?
A. Yes. You only need Internet Explorer for browsing the Internet.
